Who We Are

We are the body charged with overseeing the implementation and compliance of elections procedures in the pursuit of upholding our vision and guiding principles.


Vision Statement

To maximize the opportunity for students to be involved in USC-governed elections at the University of Western Ontario, as candidates, voters and informed individuals.


Guiding Principles

  • To ensure fairness and democracy
  • To provide a manner of balloting that is efficient, effective, impartial and confidential
  • To increase student awareness as to the occurrence of student elections
  • To allow any student to be a candidate in an election, regardless of financial status
  • To raise the level of debate surrounding student issues
  • To protect the reputation of the University and the USC in the city and elsewhere

Meet The Team


Chief Returning Officer


Erin McCauley

Year 3 • Ivey Business School

The CRO is the highest governing figure in the administration of all USC elections with the main priority of ensuring that a fair, transparent, and impartial election is conducted for all representative positions within the University Students’ Council. The CRO is responsible for overseeing the Deputy Returning Officer, and is chair of both the Elections Planning Committee and the Elections Governance Committee.

Katherine Carrasco

Year 2 • Criminology

The DRO is the second governing figure in the administration of USC elections collaborating closely with the Chief Returning Officer. The DRO sits as vice-chair of the Elections Governance Committee and is responsible for assisting the Chief Returning Officer and Secretary-Treasurer in the execution of Fall and Spring Elections, in both leadership and supportive roles.

Nadia Peres

Year 4 • Dan Management Accounting 

EGC’s Manager of Finance oversees the financial administration of both the Elections Planning Committee and Elections Governance Committee. The Manager of Election Finance develops strategies and plans to maximize the value of USC funds for student benefit, produces financial reports, constructs budgets, and works closely with the CRO to verify candidates’ campaign expenses in order to issue reimbursements.

Year 3 • Honours Specialization Criminology

The Manager of Operation sits as vice-chair of the Elections Planning Committee, monitors the progress of all initiatives and activities undertaken by each member of the Committee, in addition to providing logistical support to the Elections Governance Committee.The Manager of Operations works closely with the CRO, DRO, and the EGC’s Manager of Finance to implement training protocols, in addition to strategic goal setting.
